Processing times for payments

Knowing how long it takes us to process your payment helps you avoid late fees and keep your service running smoothly. Here's what to expect:

Payment options and timings

The time it takes for your payment to reach your account depends on how you paid.

We can't guarantee we'll process your payment within a specific timeframe, but below are the typical times you can expect. There may be delays on bank holidays.

Online

Payments made before 9 pm will be processed the same day, but may take up to 24 hours. It's a secure, quick, and easy way to pay your bill.

By phone

Payments made before 9 pm on our automated service on 0800 44 33 11 should be processed the same day, but can take up to 24 hours. If you're paying this way, you'll need your BT account number handy. You can find this at the top of your bill.

BACS or Online Banking

Payment can take up to 24 hours to show on your BT account.

Cheque, cash or a Postal Order

It can take up to 5 working days. We'll start processing your payment on the day we receive it.

At the bank, the Post Office, or a PayPoint

  • Pay Monday to Thursday: we'll get it the next Monday
  • Pay Friday: we'll get it on Monday
  • Pay over the weekend: we'll get it Tuesday
