HBO Max launched in the UK on 26 March. As part of this update, some NOW Entertainment experiences changed. Here’s everything you need to know.
What’s changing?
If you’re an existing EE TV customer with a NOW Entertainment membership prior to 26 March 2026, HBO Max Basic with Ads will now be included at no extra cost for existing customers, and the membership will be called NOW Entertainment & HBO Max.

No. There’s no change to your monthly bill.
You can watch all HBO Basic with Ads content in the NOW app. If you want to watch this in the HBO app as well, you need to do the following to activate your HBO app access.
You can do this by:
- Go to this NOW help page.
- Select Need Help in the bottom right corner.
- Select TV.
- Select Entertainment & HBO Max Membership.
- Select Yes if you have NOW Entertainment & HBO Max (Basic with ads) in your TV package.
- Select I’m an EE TV customer.
- Select Link my account so I can watch in the HBO Max app.
- IMPORTANT: Select whether you have Now Entertainment & HBO Max as part of your TV package or as add on/extra.
- Select Link Now account - an HBO Max web page opens.
- Log in to HBO Max (IMPORTANT: If you have a TNT Sports subscription, make sure to use the same email you use to access it on discovery+ or HBO).
You can now use your HBO Max Basic with Ads subscription across devices in your HBO Max account.
If you have an EE TV Box Pro or EE TV Box Edge, HBO Max will automatically be available in your apps rail from launch.
The HBO Max app is also available for Android devices. Go to Google Play, search for HBO Max, and download it.
HBO only supports certain content signed in American Sign Language.
If you are an existing customer who bought before 26th March, you can retain access as part of your EE TV subscription at no extra cost. If you joined since then and want to subscribe to discovery+ entertainment content, you can purchase by signing up in the discovery+ app, but this won't appear on your BT/EE bill.
Help with NOW Entertainment & HBO Max
You can just access the NOW app on your TV box or other device and your content will be there.
If you're a NOW Entertainment & HBO Max subscriber through BT, and wish to use the HBO Max app, you'll need to activate via NOW.
If you also have TNT Sports it's important when activating that you use the same email address so that you can access all content under one login.
NOW Entertainment & HBO Max contains all of the content from HBO Max’s Basic with Ads tier, so the content is the same.
HBO content in the HBO Max app will be in full HD (1080p). The same content in the NOW app is also in full HD if you have NOW Boost. Without NOW Boost, it's in 720p.
The NOW app allows customers to stream 2 concurrent streams and download eligible HBO content for offline viewing. This capability is being rolled out gradually over the coming weeks, so some titles may not be available to download immediately.
The HBO Max app allows customers 2 concurrent streams and no offline downloads.
Boost will continue working as normal. Customers can keep enjoying their favourite Entertainment & HBO Max shows ad-free, with improved picture and sound quality, and the ability to watch on up to 2 devices at once.
The NOW Entertainment pass is available with the EE TV Entertainment package.
At the moment, EE TV only offers the Basic with Ads version of HBO when buying NOW Entertainment & HBO Max.
If you want to watch a premium film in the HBO Max app that needs a premium subscription, you can watch it in the NOW app if you have NOW Cinema as part of your EE TV subscription.
