What is the Telephone Preference Service?
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service run by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). It stops your telephone number being available to organisations, including charity and voluntary organisations, who may telephone you with sales or marketing calls.
How do I register?
You can register with the Telephone Preference Service directly by visiting their website at www.tpsonline.org.uk (opens a new window) or by calling them on 0345 070 0707.
We also offer Caller Display, which lets you see the number of the caller.
Am I already registered with the Telephone Preference Service?
Check if your number is already registered (opens a new browser window).
How long does it take to start working?
Once you've registered, it takes about a month to start working.
What if I'm still getting unwanted sales and marketing calls after registering?
There's always a chance that some companies may not abide by the Telephone Preference Service. If you receive direct marketing or sales calls after registration, you can complain directly to the Telephone Preference Service. You can make a complaint at www.tpsonline.org.uk > (opens a new window)
What happens if I want to remove my number from registration?
You must contact the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) direct, as we can't cancel the Telephone Preference Service on your behalf.
I've registered, but I'm still getting texts from businesses?
The text message service is not included in the Telephone Preference Service, but you can stop texts to your landline by calling 0800 587 5252 from the landline you're receiving them on.
Can I register through BT if I'm not a BT customer?
If you're not a BT customer, you can register with the Telephone Preference Service by dialling 0345 0700707, or online at www.tpsonline.org.uk.
Why should I give BT consent to contact me after I have registered with the Telephone Preference Service?
We'd like the opportunity to contact you regarding new discounts, offers and services which we believe would be of genuine interest.
