Let callers know about a Home Phone issue with a Fault Message

The UK’s ageing and unreliable copper landline network is being retired.
When BT contacts you, take action to avoid disruption to your home phone or broadband services

Further information and support are available on our Connected Together website, or by calling 0330 1234 150.

Let callers know your phone line has a fault and is being repaired. Learn about BT’s free service and how to set it up quickly and easily.

We can let callers know there’s a fault on your line and that it’s being repaired. This free service plays a message to callers explaining the fault.

Setting up the message

For Home Phone Standard customers, you need to call us so we can set this up for you.

Digital Voice customers can start online through My BT:

Report and fix landline problems online

If you report the fault online, you'll be asked if you'd like to add an out-of-service message.

You can also call us to get this added.

Text us to investigate an issue

For both Digital Voice and Home Phone Standard customers, you can text HELP to 61998 (charges may apply at your standard rates).

  • We'll run tests on your connection to find out what's going on.
  • If you need an engineer, we'll text you in 15 minutes to book a slot.
  • If you don't need an engineer, our brilliant UK and Ireland based team will call you within 30 minutes to help solve your issue.
