Where are the best places for my Wi-Fi discs?

The BT Whole Home Wi-Fi app gives location tips and lets you test different locations for your discs.

In general, you want to position your discs approximately halfway between the first disc and the area where you want to provide Wi-Fi coverage.

Your broadband connection brings the internet into your home through your hub. Wi-Fi is the wireless signal that spreads the connection around your house. The stronger the signal, the better your experience.

What can affect your Wi-Fi?

A few things can get in the way:

  • Your hub is tucked behind furniture or near things like fish tanks or microwaves.
  • Too many devices are online at once.
  • Your phone or laptop is older and slower.

It's also possible your hub just needs a quick restart.

Quick fixes to improve your Wi-Fi

  1. Move your hub to a better location and turn off devices you're not using.
  2. Retune your Wi-Fi (also called rescanning) so your hub picks the best setup.
  3. Position your Wi-Fi Extender halfway between your hub and where you need better Wi-Fi.
  4. Use the disc location checker in the My BT app to find the very best location for the disc.

Places to avoid

  • Other electronic devices that emit signals (like microwaves, TVs, and baby monitors).
  • Shiny or metallic surfaces. They can scatter the signal.
  • Near windows or fish tanks. They can absorb and waste a signal.
  • In a cupboard. Walls and doors absorb and weaken the signal.

Don't have too many!

Don’t overdo it. Using multiple Wi-Fi Extenders can cause overlapping signals and slow everything down.
