Everyone has heard stories about people getting unexpectedly high mobile bills after travelling abroad. We don’t want that happening to you.
If you want to use your phone abroad for the internet, social media or emails without high charges, set limits on your data roaming spend.
Here are some ways to control your costs:
- You can use your calls, texts and data in 47 Roam Like Home destinations. Find out more on our calling charges page.
- You might want to think about a BT Mobile data add-on for when you're abroad. It can help keep costs down because you buy several MB of data in one go so the price per MB is lower. Find out more about data add-ons.
- Set your data roaming spend cap to £0 or lower so you can't build up high data charges - Change your spend cap now.
- Set your SIM spend cap to £0 or more so you won't spend anything on calls, texts or data - Change your SIM spend cap now.
- Turn off data roaming. Find out how to do this for your phone.
- Turn off roaming on your account by going to the Manage my spend section at www.bt.com/mymobile.
I've got charges on my BT Mobile bill, but I haven't been abroad
Occasionally, foreign networks can 'cross over' into the UK, and your phone can pick them up and start using them. That might mean you get charged roaming rates as if you were abroad.
To make sure this doesn't happen to you, we suggest keeping roaming off by default and turning it on only when you're abroad.
