BT Virus Protect app

• Device Security brings real-time protection for your Android smartphones and tablets against ransomware, viruses, spyware, malware and other online threats. It monitors and helps block unauthorised traffic, and helps protect your private and financial information when you go online.
• Internet Security helps protect your device and personal data from malicious sites that install ransomware, trojans and other online threats.

• Safe Web helps provide a safer way to browse, search and shop online. It analyses websites you navigate to, to help detect viruses, spyware, malware or other cyberthreats and provides a safety rating for them, before you visit them.
  
• Wi-Fi Security helps detect and alert you when a network joined is dangerous or under attack to help protect your personal information. 
  
• Norton Clean helps you reclaim storage space on your device by cleaning junk, removing duplicate files and optimising memory.
  
• SMS Security helps keep you and your Android device safer from texts with phishing links. It helps identity SMS text messages with unsafe links and notifies you, to help prevent you from inadvertently clicking on them and potentially putting your personal information at risk.
• App Advisor proactively helps protect your Android smartphone against mobile online threats like malware, ransomware, adware and privacy leaks using a patent-protected app scanning technology.
• Smart Scan helps you identify security, performance and network issues, and provides solutions to help keep your digital life safe.

The BT Virus Protect app is compatible with the following Android operating systems:

• Android 8.0 or later

Please note: you must have the Google Play app installed on your device.

From the My BT app 

Please note: you must have the My BT app installed on your device

1. Log in to the My BT app
2. Select Your Products in the bottom menu bar
3. Select Broadband
4. Scroll down to Manage security settings
5. Scroll down to BT Virus Protect
6. Select Activate on BT Virus Protect. The status will then change to 'Manage'
7. Select Manage to start installing BT Virus Protect on your device

From the Google Play Store

Please note: you must have the Google Play app installed on your device.

1. Search for BT Virus Protect in the app store and install it
2. Agree to the End User License Agreement (EULA)
3. Open the app and log in using your My BT username and password to activate the account - you'll only need to do this once

What if no licence is found?

If no licence is found, you’ll be asked to subscribe. Log in with your BT username and password to create your entitlement.

You'll then be taken to the My BT home page. From there:

1. Select Your Security in the top menu bar
2. Find the BT Virus Protect tile and select Switch to Norton
3. If you are using BT Virus Protect for the first time, select Activate

Now open the BT Virus Protect app you downloaded and log in using your My BT username and password.

To enable Internet Security on your device:

1. Open the BT Virus Protect app
2. Tap on Internet Security
3. The app will detect browsers and apps installed on your device and check if they're protected
4. Tap on the Enable button to turn on Safe Web

From here, you can enable Safe Search for browsers and add a shortcut or search bar to your device's home screen.

To set up Wi-Fi Security on your device:

1. Open the BT Virus Protect app
2. Tap on Wi-Fi Security
3. Allow the app to access your location (you can change this in your device settings)
4. Once done, BT Virus Protect will scan the network for SSL Stripping, SSL Decryption, ARP Spoofing, Password protection, Encryption strength, Content Tampering and DNS Spoofing.

How do I run a Wi-Fi Security scan?

To run a scan manually:

1. Open the BT Virus Protect app
2. Tap on Wi-Fi Security
3. Wait for the scan to finish
4. If any security risks are detected with the wireless network, follow the recommended steps to fix them

To set up SMS Security on an Android device:

1. Open the BT Virus Protect app
2. Tap Security > SMS Security > Set Up
3. Tap Allow to enable the BT Virus Protect app to view and filter the spam text messages that you receive from known and unknown senders

Please note: due to Android operating system limitations, the BT Virus Protect app does not automatically delete suspicious messages. 

How do I delete spam messages?

To delete messages identified as spam by SMS Security:

1. Open the BT Virus Protect app
2. Tap on SMS Security to see the list of suspicious text messages that you have received from known and unknown senders
3. Tap to view a message, then touch and hold to choose Delete
